Sixty-six arrangements have gone east from our La Cienega studio into Downtown, Silver Lake and Echo Park since May 2023 — twenty-one of them in the last twelve months. The record here leans tall and simple. The Raspberry Piano Bouquet and our white hydrangea monobouquet come up most often, then a bouquet of twelve red roses, white callas, seventeen delphinium, thirty-nine carnations. Those are shapes that hold their own on a console table in a loft or a reception desk in a tower, and they travel well over a drive of this length. Sympathy work shows up in the record too. February is the busiest month on this route, which is Valentine's Day doing what Valentine's Day does in a part of town full of couples in walk-up buildings.

How the run works

The cutoff is 4pm, Monday through Saturday; make it and your flowers are designed and driven across town before the day is out. About a third of the orders on this route are same-day, so the afternoon eastbound run is a working habit rather than a line on a page. The studio sits at 620 N La Cienega Blvd, roughly 7.6 miles from the Historic Core — closer to Echo Park, Westlake and USC, farther out to Highland Park and Eagle Rock. Delivery is typically $42, about $31 on the near ZIPs and $59 at the north-east edge, and checkout works the exact figure out by distance before you pay. We design the arrangement in the studio and one of our own drivers takes it across town. Nobody else touches it.

The places we know

Two ZIPs lead this route: 90013, the Historic Core along Broadway and Spring, with thirteen deliveries, and 90039, Atwater Village and the eastern edge of Silver Lake, with twelve. After that it spreads — the Arts District around Mateo and Traction, Little Tokyo and the Civic Center, Bunker Hill and the Financial District, where four deliveries have gone to 90071, a ZIP that is essentially nothing but office towers. Each asks something different of us. Towers want business hours and a reception desk name. Arts District and Historic Core lofts want the callbox code, because most of them have no doorman. Hotels around L.A. Live hold guest bouquets at the front desk under the name on the reservation. Hospitals such as California Hospital Medical Center and PIH Health Good Samaritan take flowers at the lobby and carry them up. Then there is the hillside half of this page: the streets above Echo Park Lake, Sunset Junction, the blocks below Dodger Stadium, York Boulevard in Highland Park, Occidental College in Eagle Rock. Houses with steps and gates, which take a different kind of patience than a lobby does.
